On 23 October 2026, one of the most prestigious international scientific congresses in the field of medical oncology — ESMO Congress 2026 — opened in Madrid, Spain. Taking part in the congress is the Gustave Roussy International Uzbekistan delegation of the Republican Specialized Scientific-Practical Medical Center of Oncology and Radiology.
Our delegation comprises the centre's professors, deputy directors and leading specialists, as well as young and promising medical oncologists.
Today's focus
The first day of the congress featured sessions devoted to the pressing issues of modern oncology:
- immunotherapy;
- molecular targeted therapy;
- oncology treatment methods based on an individualised approach;
- mRNA vaccines;
- new scientific advances in the treatment of various malignant tumours.
Of particular interest are treatment approaches applied on the basis of the molecular characteristics of tumours, regardless of which organ they arose in (tumour-agnostic therapy), as well as personalised cancer vaccines. Such approaches are broadening the possibilities of selecting treatment based not on the location of the tumour but on its genetic and molecular characteristics.
This international platform is of great importance for exchanging experience with the world's leading oncologists, becoming acquainted with modern treatment standards, and expanding future cooperation opportunities.
Tomorrow — 24 October
Our delegation plans to take part in the ESMO congress's subsequent scientific sessions, including the Presidential Symposium I programme, where the results of new clinical trials will be presented.
One of the session's most important scientific highlights is the INTerpath-001 (phase III) clinical trial. In surgically resected stage IIB–IV melanoma, it compares the combination of an individualised mRNA neoantigen therapy (intismeran autogene) — prepared on the basis of mutations specific to the patient's tumour — plus pembrolizumab with pembrolizumab monotherapy.
The DeLLphi-305 (phase III) trial, meanwhile, is investigating the efficacy of the combination of tarlatamab and durvalumab as maintenance therapy after first-line treatment in extensive-stage small cell lung cancer.
Tomorrow also includes planned participation in the 5th Gustave Roussy Alumni Reunion, an international meeting associated with France's Gustave Roussy cancer centre. This meeting is an important opportunity to strengthen international scientific ties and to pursue future joint projects.
Our goal
Our main goal is to study the advanced knowledge and innovations in global oncology, to introduce them step by step into Uzbekistan's practice, and to further improve the quality of cancer care in our country. The future of Uzbekistan's oncology lies in science, international cooperation and the potential of young specialists.
