Uzbek specialists complete an international internship at Gustave Roussy
Medical oncologists and a molecular-diagnostics medical biologist from Uzbekistan took part in a clinical and laboratory internship at Gustave Roussy in France from 5 to 16 October 2026, and received certificates.
Specialists from Uzbekistan — medical oncologists and a medical biologist working in molecular diagnostics — took part in a training and practical internship at Gustave Roussy, one of France's leading oncology centres, from 5 to 16 October 2026.
During the internship they studied the centre's clinical and laboratory work, pathomorphology, molecular and genetic diagnostics, the system for managing oncology patients, and the multidisciplinary approach.
The programme covered several key areas:
- gastrointestinal, gynaecological and thoracic oncology
- sarcomas
- haematology
- radiation oncology
- molecular diagnostics and Precision Medicine
The specialists also joined MDT (multidisciplinary tumour board) meetings in different fields and took part in discussing clinical cases.
Under the guidance of Professor Cécile Badoual, head of the Medical Biology and Pathology department at Gustave Roussy, they explored the work of the laboratory and pathomorphology service, including laboratory diagnostic processes, the automated system for handling samples, and the organisation of molecular and genetic testing. At a sarcoma MDT meeting they observed how a multidisciplinary team reviews many clinical cases in a short time.
During the programme the specialists also met Professor Fabrice Barlesi, director general of Gustave Roussy, together with leading professors and specialists from the centre's various departments.
The main aim of the internship was to study advanced international experience in organising modern oncology care, molecular diagnostics, Precision Medicine and the multidisciplinary approach, and to apply this experience in oncology practice in Uzbekistan in the future.
The specialists successfully completed the internship and received certificates.
