The Diagnostics and Imaging Department provides the clinical foundation for every oncology pathway at the center. Accurate, timely diagnosis is what allows the treating team to confirm whether a cancer is present, determine its type and extent, and begin planning treatment without delay.

What the department does

The department coordinates the full range of investigations needed to stage cancer and guide treatment decisions. This includes cross-sectional imaging studies, nuclear medicine imaging where indicated, ultrasound-guided and CT-guided procedures, and the integration of imaging findings with laboratory and pathology data. All studies are reviewed by specialist radiologists and oncologists as part of a multidisciplinary assessment.

Conditions and clinical questions addressed

The department handles initial diagnostic workup and re-staging across all major tumour types — solid tumours of the chest, abdomen, pelvis, head and neck, and musculoskeletal system, as well as lymphomas and other haematological malignancies. It also provides imaging follow-up during and after treatment to assess response.

Clinical approach

Imaging protocols are selected to answer the specific clinical question. Where possible, investigations are combined and sequenced to avoid duplication and to keep the patient's diagnostic journey as efficient as possible. Results are communicated to the referring team and, where relevant, discussed at the multidisciplinary tumour board before a treatment plan is finalised.

What patients can expect

After a referral or consultation, the imaging team will schedule your investigation and provide any preparation instructions — for example, fasting requirements, contrast considerations, or clothing guidance. Following the study, a report is prepared and shared with your treating specialist, who will discuss the findings with you in the context of your overall care plan. Bring an identity document, your referral, any previous imaging discs or reports, and a list of current medicines to your appointment.
