What the department does

The department performs core biopsies of breast tumours, axillary lymph-node biopsies, breast-conserving resections, and mastectomies. Surgical options include oncoplastic procedures, reconstruction, and subcutaneous mastectomy with immediate silicone implant placement. Aesthetic procedures include breast reduction, breast lift, and augmentation.

Conditions and clinical questions addressed

The department treats breast cancer, precancerous conditions, benign breast tumours, nodular and diffuse mastopathy, and mastitis. Breast and lymph-node biopsies form part of its diagnostic services.

Clinical approach

Treatment combines surgical methods with chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, or hormonal therapy as appropriate. The department uses the Sentimag system to identify sentinel lymph nodes for selective removal. Breast-conserving and reconstructive techniques are among the available surgical approaches.
